Solar PV

More and more people are discovering the benefits of installing solar PV, it’s a source of green electricity which saves on carbon dioxide emissions to help combat climate change. Not only that, it is a great feeling knowing you’re producing your own electricity and seeing your electricity bills reduce. Add to that the possibility of receiving an income for selling back your excess electricity and you can see why it’s becoming so popular. The Victron eco system allows for easy control and distribution of solar energy throughout your system meaning the excess energy produced is never wasted. You can charge an EV, turn on emersion heaters to give you a plentiful supply of hot water or even combine storage heaters etc to charge during periods of excess production.

Adding batteries to the system increases the benefits from solar even more and overcomes one of the main obstacles associated with solar PV, this being that PV generation times do not always match times of power demand. For example, a typical UK household will use more power during the late afternoon / evening than during the day however the solar PV generates its maximum output around the middle of the day.  Storing the electricity locally helps stop the system exporting during periods of excess generation (selling the electricity at a lower rate) and then buying electricity back from the grid during periods of high demand.

ESS System

At Burwains Energy we design and build bespoke self consumption systems to suit all requirements using Victron’s modular ESS system. ESS is Victron’s self-consumption system, it is designed to optimise the use of solar and wind power.

Victron’s MPPT Solar Chargers are the most efficient way to charge the batteries on an ESS system, this system is known as DC coupled PV. There are situations where AC coupled PV would be more suitable, for example where there is a large energy demand during the day. In these circumstances we prefer to use Fronius PV inverters as they integrate perfectly with Victron systems. Visit our ESS page for more information.
