Battery Storage (ESS)
Solar PV and Wind can be a great addition to your home or business, helping to cut down your energy bills. One of the biggest drawbacks however with these systems, especially solar is that power generation times do not always line up with times of energy demand. A typical example would be a family home – the house would usually be empty during the day when the solar is generating peak power, and in the evening when everyone is home and the energy demand is high, the solar production is low. This problem can be overcome to some extent by selling excess energy back to the grid during the day, however the price achieved when selling the energy back is usually far less than the cost of purchasing energy from your supplier.
Energy storage systems overcome this problem by allowing excess energy to be stored locally (in batteries within your premises) so that this energy can be used during periods of high demand or periods of low generation. This means that you keep the energy that your renewable system has generated rather than selling it back to the supplier at a cheaper rate.
Victron call this an “Optimised Self- Consumption System”. And it truly is!
